[CES 2022] MoonBikes is showing off the world’s first electric snowbike
CES Unveiled is a media-only event where brands ranging from Canon to MoonBikes give us media types a first look ahead of the official show. MoonBikes is a french start-up and is using CES to present its premiere innovation: the world’s first electric snowbike. Specializing in snow mobility, the company is moving in on the US market, producing 400 MoonBikes for European and American markets. The company didn’t give much of a press release, but we did include that below for some narrow context of what this machine is and what the company plans.

MoonBikes announces full specs and pricing for its electric snow bike
Right around this time last year, we first heard about the MoonBike electric snow bike. Although the French-designed vehicle was in prototype form back then, its makers have now announced full specs and pricing for the production version. To recap our previous coverage, the MoonBike is a single-passenger battery-powered rig with a snowmobile-like rubber tread in the back, and a snowboard-like steerable ski on a suspension fork in the front. And no, it doesn't have pedals – just a throttle.
The just-announced production model has a top speed of 42 km/h (26 mph), its 3-kW motor puts out 170 Nm (125 lb- ft) of torque, and is powered by a quick-swappable 2.5-kWh lithium battery. One 5.75-hour charge of that battery (or 3 hours with an optional fast charger), is claimed to be good for one hour of use in Sport mode, or 1.5 hours in Eco mode.

Sodium Cycles shows off 50 mph light electric motorcycle headed for sodium-ion batteries
French motorbike company Sodium Cycles took to CES 2021 to show off the latest version of their light electric motorcycle known as the Xubaka. The Xubaka electric motorcycle has been in development since 2018 and looks quite different from most mini electric motorcycles we’ve seen.
The Xubaka’s rear houses a 4 kW continuous and 5.5 kW peak-rated hub motor that propels the bike to a top speed of 80 km/h (50 mph). The Xubaka is limited to just 50 km/h (31 mph) in its native EU though, keeping it street legal in the 50cc class without a full motorcycle license. The US version will presumably not carry the lower speed limit, or may have optional user-selectable speed limits that would allow the Xubaka to operate at full speed. The 50 kg (110 lb) bike comes in far below the weight of most comparably performing gas or electric scooters/motorcycles. A low slung 1.34 kWh battery offers a claimed range of between 60-80 km (37-50 miles), though almost certainly measured at slower city speeds.
For now that battery uses lithium-ion cells like nearly all electric bicycles and motorcycles on the market today. But Sodium Cycles draws its name from its ambitious plan to outfit the bike with new sodium-ion batteries. Sodium-ion batteries are a quickly developing technology that could present many advantages as an alternative to conventional lithium-ion batteries.

Xubaka: a small electric motorcycle Made in France
At the foot of the Pyrenees that is designed and built the Xubaka first electric motorcycle company French Sodium Cycles, launched in 2018. The program includes a small two-wheeled lightweight, customizable, and vintage charm timeless half -path between the big bike and the mini bike.
The Xubaka is therefore a small custom-made moped, with a minimalist appearance to say the least. The styling is essentially carried by the frame, accompanied by a round headlight at the front, spoked rims shod with large tires, as well as curved handlebars and two "old-fashioned" flat saddles. Enough to give it a look with cafe racer inspirations and the soul of a good old mob! Tailor-made design requires, the Xubaka can be personalized both aesthetically (frame color) and practically. It will thus be possible to opt for a luggage rack at the front or at the back, a wooden box at the back, side bags, or even a surf rack, among others. Personalization elements which are aimed at individuals but also at professionals.
Under its big vintage BMX style (Sodium Cycles says so!), The Xubaka is powered by a 4 kW electric motor placed in the rear hub. What to reach a speed of 45 km / h (in accordance with the regulations of 50cc) while freeing the lower part of the frame to house the battery. Removable, it allows between 40 and 50 km of autonomy depending on the journeys and height differences encountered. Finally, the approximately 60 kg of the Xubaka are made of materials of French origin and recyclable, from local production. Here is an attractive small electric two-wheeler, personal, and which will soon be available in 125 equivalent! In the meantime, the bike is available from € 5,990.

CES gadget unveilings: Food-delivery robot, toothbrush that cleans in 10 seconds
Meanwhile, to speed away from all these household duties, the Dutch electric scooter startup Brekr unveiled its Model B4000 electric moped, which looks like a classic motorcycle. The 159-pound moped features a 4,000-watt electric motor and a lithium battery that can fully charge in three hours. It can reach speeds of up to 31 miles per hour. One full charge allows for a range of 118 miles. The Brekr model is considered a “smart” moped in that it connects to an app that offers an integrated GPS module as well as anti-theft technology. The Brekr B4000 retails at $4,775 in its native Holland. The company is unsure if and when it will be available in the US.

BREKR’s sleek, innovative electric moped design expands market after cash infusion
The BREKR Model B is a unique electric moped with an eye-catching design. And now it will be catching eyes in more places than ever thanks to a new investment helping the Dutch company expand its market. We first covered the debut of the BREKR Model B back in October 2019, shortly before worldwide manufacturing was turned on its head by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Already available in Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, BREKR will now be expanding further into Europe thanks to a €1.5 million investment from Bloomit Ventures and Bloomit Seed I Fund.
The Model B starts at €4,499 (approximately US $5,300) and uses a rear hub motor to simplify the frame design by removing any complicated motor mounting issues from the center of the frame. The 2.5 kW continuous-rated motor and 4 kW peak-rated motor is electronically limited to a mere 45 km/h (28 mph), though that keeps it street legal as an L1e moped in Europe and requires the least regulation to ride.
